2008 Scholarship
In a time of growing concern about insect-borne diseases such as West Nile virus encephalitis and Lyme Disease, the Wheaton Mosquito Abatement District generously donated $1,000 to the IMVCA Scholarship Fund in memory of Henry Lawicki. While a member of the IMVCA Executive Board, "Hank" took the lead role in establishing the
scholarship because he worried about whether there would be a future generation of biologists to work with Mosquito Abatement Districts and public health departments. The scholarship was designed to encourage undergraduates to take a course that would expose them to medical entomology and the opportunities in public health.
The 2008 Scholarship Fund will honor the memory of Henry Lawicki. He was the Wheaton MAD's consultant for 23 year and his passing on November 27, 2007 is a great loss to all who had the privilege to know him. Hank worked very hard to bring the scholarship idea to reality, and Wheaton MAD's donation is the best way to honor Henry's memory.
